Photos of Animals Retouched to Look Like Real-Life Minecraft Creatures
Jakarta-based designer and retoucher Aditya Aryanto posed the question: what would the blocky digital creatures in Minecraft look like if they actually walked the Earth? The result is a totally absurd series of retouched photographs titled Minecraft in Real Life.
He has imagined a surreal series of animals that take on a quirky, cubic form. appearing to be straight out of a video game, these bizarre and brain-bending birds and carefully-edited creatures have been digitally manipulated from actual wildlife photos. ‘I am interested in the cubical shape and trying to change some animal form into cubes,’ aryanto says. ‘I was really curious about the results, so I tried to find some funny animal pictures to be changed into ‘ani-cube.’
Using images sourced from unsplash and pixabay, aryanto begin by re-defining the animal’s original silhouette as a cubic geometry. Using photoshop’s liquify tool, the artist reconstructed the shape of the creature by creating sharp corners for edges rather than naturally curved forms.
The led collection of critters sees an owl turned into a remarkably rectangular bird, a polar bear taking on a decidedly pointed posture, and a mouse mimicking a character straight out of minecraft.
