Lots of people have already seen the Northern Lights, but how many do you know have surfed under it? Mick Fanning recently went to Norway together with Red Bull to check an item off his bucket list: to surf under the glorious Aurora Borealis, Watching Mick Fanning surf under the Northern Lights is absolutely hypnotic.
With the prodding of Norwegian photographers Emil Sollie and Mats Grimsaeth, the Australian surfing champion finally made the trip to the far-flung Lofoten Islands and waded through freezing waters in the middle of the night.
The resulting images are absolutely spectacular.
“I was just staring up at the sky and screaming with excitement. It was incredible,” said Fanning. “It’s been something that has been on my bucket list for a while. That’s why when the idea came through, I was ready to go.”
